English Upgrading

Changes to Entry Requirements starting Fall 2024

Beginning with the Fall 2024 term, students with a "C-" in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 can now directly apply and register into ENGU 355, without requiring any other assessment testing. ENGU 355 is a one term course that is tuition free for domestic students and meets the English Language Requirements for most 鶹ýAV Courses. Prepare for College at College!
Course Information

English upgrading courses will help you upgrade your reading and writing skills to increase your success in your other college classes. Options range from basic literacy to college preparatory courses.

English Upgrading for ECE and Child and Youth Care Programs

Our English Upgrading pathway prepares you to meet the English requirement for the 鶹ýAV Early Childhood Education and Child and Youth Care programs. No placement test is required.

It's tuition free for domestic applicants. Start in September and your application fee will also be covered.

Email upgrading@douglascollege.ca and ask about the English Upgrading pathway to ECE or Child and Youth Care.

Course Information

Before you register for any ENGU courses, you need to write an English placement test to determine your current written command of English (Except for students with a "C-" in English Studies or those entering through the ECE/CYC pathway). Once you complete the written test, you'll have a brief interview with an instructor.

There is no need to study or cram before taking your placement test. The tests are purely for placement purposes.

Placements are offered throughout the Fall, Winter and Summer semesters on both campuses, but you must register by calling one of the numbers listed below. Make sure you do your placement test before your course registration date.

Course fees

ENGU and MATU courses are tuition free.

Student fees still apply. For more information on the fee schedule (student fees and U-Pass) contact the English Upgrading Office.
